Mud Cracking

Deep, irregular cracks resemble dried mud in dry paint film.

Possible Cause:

  1. Paint is applied too thickly, usually over a porous surface.
  2. Paint applied too thick, to improve hiding.
  3. Paint is allowed to build up in corners upon application.

Solution:

  1. Mud cracking areas can be repaired by sanding the surface smooth, then prime, and repaint.
  2. Use high quality Latex paints as it has more flexibility than alkyd paints.
